Wines from the Itata, Maule & Aconcagua Valleys in Chile.

Who We Are

Jack Todes & Richard Cohen are long-time business people in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area, and Cristian Barerra, fellow business partner and resident of Concepción, Chile, perceived an opportunity to bring niche boutique vineyards to the premium wine market in the USA. Combining our respective experiences and contacts, we set out to establish Aquila Imports and Aquila Distributors to fill this market. We work with only small vineyards that want to expand their reach with unique, heartfelt, small run, crafted wines. We work with sommeliers here in the United States to help choose only the best of the best these boutique vintners have to offer. We use the resources of our resident Chilean partner Cristian to bring to the United States the best that Chilean Boutique vineyards can offer. To date, we represent seven wineries in Chile, with more being sampled.

All wines distributed outside of Pennsylvania by Aquila Distributors LLC.

Fertile Valleys, where vineyards are nestled between the Andes and the ocean coast, premium quality wines, and exceptional natural beauty make Chile wine country attractive not only for wine connoisseurs but also a perfect destination for nature lovers. Discover the flavors of Chile through its wines from the famous Carménère of Central Valley to vigorous Cabernet Sauvignon of Colchagua Valley and many more. Our local partner wineries will guarantee a memorable experience for you.

The Humboldt Current running off the coast ensures that the temperatures do not rise too high and fall at night. The light intensity is high, and the grapes ripen everywhere. These factors lead to a strong concentration of aromas, which is typical of Chilean wines.

However, irrigation is required either by flooding the vineyards or drip irrigation with water from the melting Andean glaciers. The range of grape varieties ranges from Chardonnay to Sauvignon Blanc, whereas the far larger part is planted with red varieties. Above all, Chile is known for Cabernet Sauvignon, which gives cool, full-bodied, tannin-emphasized wines that remind of black currant, eucalyptus, and cedarwood in their aroma.
